about

Most of the time, when I am writing music, I like to explore many different sounds from different instruments. As a fun experiment, I decided I wanted to record a song using only 3 synthesizers, and for some reason I decided I would use only ‘80s synth sounds and effects. I chose the Roland JX-3P, the Korg MS-20 (reissue), and samples from the CMI Fairlight (from the Vogel CMI app on my iPhone). For delays and reverbs, I bought a used Alesis MIDIVerb II effects unit off of eBay. Mainly because it was really cheap, but also, I heard that My Bloody Valentine has used one of these in their music. I did use a few other effects from Ableton Live just for mixing, like EQ and compression. I think this also might be the first song in a long time that I have recorded without using a sequencer for any of the instruments in this song. Every part was actually performed by me and not programmed. Thanks again to Carter Greeves for mastering.
